Reverend Dr. Rebecca Anne Kahnt
The Reverend Rebecca "Becky" Anne Kahnt is the middle child of a mother who was Baptist and a father who was Catholic. They decided they wanted to raise their children in a church, but neither wanted to belong to the church of the other. So they compromised and became Presbyterian. It was in the Presbyterian Church of Toms River that Becky found the best way to understand and express her faith finding that she was truly a Calvinist but more importantly, truly a child of God. Baptized in 1985, confirmed in 1994 and ordained as a Minister of the Word and Sacrament in 2006, Becky has known that God has had a call on her and is excited each day to see what that call will bring. In her ministry, Becky has served God in a variety of ways. Before she was ordained she served in churches in New Jersey as a Directory in Youth Ministry. Newly ordained, she served churches in Pennsylvania as as Associate Pastor before being called to North Carolina s a Solo Pastor, and now serving as Head of Staff in Youngstown, Ohio.
Pastor Kahnt has a BA in Youth Ministry with a minor in Psychology and a minor in Theology from a small Christian College on the mainline in Pennsylvania called Eastern University. She then received her Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey. In 2019, Pastor Becky received her Doctorate of Ministry through Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in Reformed Christian Spirituality. Her thesis was entitled, "Take and Receive: Bringing the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises into the Reformed Tradition". In this process Pastor Kahnt became a Spiritual Directory, also becoming certified in giving the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises through the Pneuma Institute, which is located in Pittsburgh, under the direction of Dr. Martha Robbins.
Becky has three children (Sam, Abigail, and Hannah) who humble her and inspire her everyday. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, exercising, writing and reading.
Clerk of Session
I feel very fortunate to have been hired at First Presbyterian Church in 2011 by then Pastor, Nick Mager. When he retired, I had the pleasure of working with Pastor Carolyn Griffeth and now it is an honor to work with Pastor Becky, FPC's 13th Pastor, as her Administrative Assistant.
In my "younger days", I had worked for Attorneys here in downtown Youngstown. I was a stay at home mom when my children were little. When they were in Middle School, I went back to work at Boardman Local Schools.
I reside in Boardman with my husband, Dave, and have two wonderful children. Alyson, who married Eric on July 14, 2018 and Drew. Aly is a special education teacher at Wilson Elementary and Eric is a baseball coach at Youngstown State University. Aly and Eric welcomed their first child, daughter, Everly Sophia, born on June 3, 2020. We are so excited to be called Grandma and Papa!
Drew lives in Pittsburgh and is an Actuary for Optum (United Health Care) and studying for his Actuarial License. He was recently engaged to Katrina, who is also studying to become a Urologist.
I also have a twelve year old "lap dog." She is a 75 pound yellow lab named Bailey.
If my husband and I are not busy going to Pittsburgh, baseball games, and now loving on Everly, I love to read. I also enjoy cross stitching and quilting in my free time!
I started at First Presbyterian on February 28, 2006. I retired from AVI Food Systems in 2005 and live in Unity Township with my dog, Marley. My daughter Sheila is married to Jim and has two children, my grandchildren, Alyssa and Travis. I enjoy spending time with Rochelle Kelley, my family and friends, and golfing.
I am currently serving in my twelfth year as a maintenance man at First Presbyterian Church. As a journeyman machinist, I retired in May 2006 from Youngstown State University's College of Engineering and Technology. A Navy veteran, I have been a member of Columbiana's American Legion Post 290 for over 36 years and am a member of the Post's Color Guard and Honor Guard. I reside in Austintown with my wife, Terry.
I started working at FPC back in May of 2016. I am an Assistant Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop 55. I have two older sisters, a younger brother and a niece and nephew.
